Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I have some unfortunate news, Readers. Despite Mayor Pie's well-meaning press conference last week, I am calling a little press conference of my own. ::affixes Seal-of-Ponyville on the wall behind me::

I am officially putting Ponyville on an indefinite hiatus.

I am currently in the last throws of my college days and, until the end of June, I must use all of my time and creative effort on creating musicz, not comicz. I feel uncomfortable with this decision, but I felt it necessary to announce a hiatus formally; you have been very dedicated and patient with Ponyville, and I appreciate that.

But don't worry! Ponyville is not going gently into that good night! It's flailing and yelling and being a general jerk about it. <3 This is truly only a hiatus, not the end of the strip. Ponyville is easily the most rewarding project I've started online, and I won't let it go so readily.

I would like to continue posting sporadic art-stuffs, so this journal won't go completely dark for 3 months.

I also think posting PV "reruns" might be fun for you. Like Charlie Brown or something, except they are not posthumous. Although I like the idea of updating Ponyville frtom beyond the grave.

What do you think about me rerunning an old strip each week? It's not something I will do if an appreciable chunk of you have a problem with the idea. But perhaps, on a certain day each week, I'll post an old strip - maybe in chronological order, maybe in storyline order.

*gives the comic cpr* Breathe, **** you! Breathe!

*the comic flatlines*

*rips stethoscope from around neck with dramatic enthusiasm and runs hand through hair* We lost the patient! Oh no! Now I'll have to quit my job at the hospital and go on a montage-journey of self discovery and sulk until one of my previously unsympathetic coworkers gives me a heart-to-heart! :(

...

Seriously though, I'll miss the comic! I didn't cast a vote because I'm undecided. Reruns sound nice, but only really to hear from you and get some assurance that you're still around every now and then. Even though, you know, it's not as cool as a new comic strip. New artwork every now and then will be nice too. I hope I'll see more of Ponyville around summertime!

Nah...I know where to find the previous strips. I'll wait patiently for new ones and the occasional sketch here and there. School can be exasperating in the final weeks of the semester.

You enjoy Ponyville enough that I'm not worried of it being retired for good now. Good for you in not trying to put your attention to doing everything well at the same time. :)

Ok, I put 3 times per week (I think lol)....but only because it doesn't really matter to me and it was either 1 day or 3. Post 5 times a week if you like =) I enjoy reading the strip so I'm happy anytime I see it!

Well, in the end it's up to you. Sometimes it's nice to see reruns, but then we all know how to hit the previous button lol. Maybe random sketches once and ahwile woudl be cool? Just any doodles you happen to have? Behind the scenes stuff? Any random fun thing lol XD

I said post re-runs, although I went back and read them all when I first found this place (OCC) at leat if you post re-runs you can't forget about this place and maybe it will make the "OMG Must make comicz" itch enough to occasionally throw us a bone..... that said, College is kinda important.... so I am willing to wait, I mean if you flunk college you will expect us to pay big bucks just to read.....

I second [info]just_laura's suggestion -- reruns with a little commentary would be awesome. ^_^

I'd really rather not see reruns, specifically because I just went through and read the archives of a different online comic that occassionally ran reruns when things got busy, and it was really really really annoying.
BUT if the rerun comics were accompanied by informative commentary (and I'm talking at least a paragraph here, and no "Such-and-Such is always funny %D" comments), then I think it would be okay.

What I'd really like to see in lieu of actual comics is some commentary on the stuff that will (probably) never actually make it into the comic, like how in the earlier days you posted the profiles of characters that might have been in the comic (like how Shenigans would be a shady hot-air balloon salesman).

*faints* That's sad. BUT I know how important and busy college can be, especially the last leg of it (BTW - that's "throes"). A doodle now and then is all right.

And I know you'll come back because there's probably several dozen people who will hunt you down and pelt you with Pinkie Pies if you don't. XD

I was gonna vote for no re-runs, but the idea of re-runs with commentary was too awesome to pass up. Ponyville will be missed muchly, and I anxiously await its return. And, of course, you know I'm here to offer help if you ever need it. ^_^

Now I'll have to watch the Penny Arcade forums to see when they start hooting and hollering about this. :P I'll let you know when they do, so we can point and giggle.

No re-runs for me, thanks. :P As someone said, I know where to find them if I want to read the comics again and I'd feel re-runs would be spamming of my friends list (no offence intended). I'd probably remove Ponyville from my list until the re-runs are over. But that's really up to you naturally, I see that majority of voters would like to see re-runs.

I voted yes for reruns. I only discovered this comic a few months ago, so there is much that I've missed. If the reruns were posted three times a week, starting with the first ones, then maybe it will be up to date again when you can continue the comic.
But I'm sure many people don't want their friends list spammed with comics they've already read before... Oh well. :)

I'm seeing that people are concerned that posting re-runs will be considered spamming, but you've also got other people who really want to see re-runs, especially with commentary. Maybe the best compromise would be to place any re-runs within LJ cuts, so that they are less intrusive to those who aren't interested in them.
